Interior design is a subject of much enjoyment. It is a subject of fun for us at Rajproperties, more than work. We, as a team love to enjoy playing with colours, textures, fabrics, furniture and spaces. With our interior design ideas, you can make a few simple changes to your home or office, and make it look spanking new.

There may be Modern interior design as well designs that are old-school and classical. We help you in choosing between spectrums of the above two and also help you in mix and match as far as these two sensibilities are concerned.

  • Here are a few basics of interior designing, before you work on any space:

Light colours increase the Area while dark colours decrease : Light colours makes space look larger, more airy and give comfort feeing, In contrast, dark colours make a space look smaller but compact. So depending upon the size of your House and position of the wall, choose the shades of colour. Correct positioning of colours will help to make your tiny apartment to make it look larger.

Importance of Doors and Windows : People often ignore about the doors and windows. However, these have a huge impact on the façade as well as the interior design. Positioning of Windows and Doors are responsible for proper light, air and security.

Multi tasking Furniture : Space-saving is everybody's mantra today, and the only way you can do it is by making your furniture multi-task. For instance, make your double bed to work like a Diwaan (or single Bed) during day time. Chest of drawers in your bedroom can be double up as a dresser. Some of the drawers can be used to keep expensive Shoes.

Easy to pull out Bed or Bunker Bed can be used in Kid's room and Computer Table can be used for Study table, simultaneously without compromising on space.

Painting Basics : Combination of colours is of utmost importance to provide a bigger and spacious look. If you want to use two or more colours in a room, make sure they're from the same colour family. E.g. use red and a pale orange or use blue and a pale green.

Pick an accent colour : Whenever decorating a room, choose one accent colour that contrasts with the base colour. For instance, if brown is the predominant colour in your bedroom – i.e. the furniture, the bed cover and chair are in beige and chocolate brown, choose an accent colour like orange or turquoise to bring the place to life. Use the accent colour in cushions, window blinds, a vase, the wall paper or even a rug.

Break the myth of "Choice of Colours" : Be weird (but not paranoid) in choosing colour. It will give a refreshing look. Challenge the concept of colour selection and think some random combination which will provide you smoothness and comfort. Don't do something just because it's fashionable and is from colouring manual.

  • Some Tips on Tiles and Lights

Guidelines on Tiles

1. Ceramic is primarily made up of clays, quartziferous sands, glass substances and other minerals. Only natural raw materials are used, mixed       with water and fired at high temperatures to create a naturally beautiful product and to achieve hardness and durability.

2. Porcelin tiles are made from special clay minerals, porcelain tile (or porcelain stoneware tile) is a highly-resistant ceramic product with a solid     structure and a hard surface which doesn't absorb water (classified as impervious), doesn't stain, and isn't affected by wear and tear over time.

3. The durability of ceramic tiles is superior to that of almost all the other surface finishes on the market. By choosing the most suitable product for     your needs, taking due care during installation and cleaning regularly, combined with the manufacturer's experience, their long life is ensured.

4. For outdoor laying, it is necessary to use tiles which absorb less than 0.5% water.

5. The advantages of porcelain tiles are that, they are available in wide range of colours and textures, along with an accurate recreation of the     look of natural stones. Moreover, they are weather resistant and resist chemical attack, scratches, stains, fire and heavy load.

6. The advantages of glazed ceramics lie in its beauty, availability of different colours, design and décor. It can be cleaned easily. It is highly     durable and can be used for both interior and exterior use

7. Ceramic tiles can be used for flooring as it is a cheaper and effective option. Initial cost installing may be high, but maintenance cost remains     very low as they are resistant to dirt and are not porous. If laid correctly and washed regularly with plain water, ceramic flooring will maintain     the appearance and the specifications of the product over time, just like it was when installed. Furthermore, glazed porcelain tiles involve less     maintenance than natural stones and marbles.

Guidelines on Lighting

  • There are three forms of lighting, basically used:

(A) Ambient lighting – The type indicates the normal, overall illumination of room that allow you to perform day to day activity and view the layout

(B) Task lighting – Lighting maintain in specific area like Reading room, Kitchen Table etc .

(C) Accent lighting -- This type of lighting is used to highlight certain features in a room, such as artwork or architecture.

  • Features and Position of Lighting in various areas of House

KITCHEN

Kitchen should be well lit as identification of objects and spot is very necessary. Special feature is required for focusing on the flooring so that any liquid present on the surface can be identified. This will reduce any chance of accident due to slippage. If you have placed decorative materials or have placed Showcase, it should be focused.

BATHROOM

Bathroom should have right combination of Light and Mirror. Proper reflection and glare will give your bathroom, the mysterious feel. Adequate provisioning is also required for Sunlight to make the Bathroom hygienic.

For Bath Light, Fixtures can be placed beside the mirror, above it, on it, or in the ceiling. Recessed lighting blends into the architecture, and can be used on its own or to supplement more decorative fixtures that don't cast much light.

SWITCHES

They come various shape, sizes and colour. Some switches like Dimmer switches help on energy savings and create a variety of effects. Dimmer switches allow one to alter the atmosphere of the room by varying from bright light to nightlight. They also save energy and increase lamp life.

BULBS

Clear Bulbs can cast strong shadow on the walls, ceilings and fixture glass. It is better to select frosted lamps or diffusing filters for all fixtures.

GARDEN LIGHTING

In case of outdoor lighting, Lights help in providing linkages to outside and does not allow us to get lost in dark. Whether driving by a house, visiting it, or living inside, landscape lighting allows us to enjoy our homes and yards in another dimension — especially at night.

With landscape lighting, we can display our homes, landscape features, and plantings. Also, places like the sidewalks, paths, and stairs can be well lit in this manner, while enhancing security.

  • How to decorate your House -- Economically

Canvas the Area

Hang canvases painted with interior latex paint to brighten blank walls. Think big: The canvases should fill the wall.

Create a Side Table

Stack modular storage units, a stepped side table with surfaces for displays and lighting. Create miniature still life in the cubbies, or stack reading material that you're going to get to...someday.

Hang Plates

Plates in unexpected colors make a fresh wall arrangement. Vary hues (within a family), sizes, textures. Put the most dramatic plate toward the center (lay out the plates first to experiment); attach wire plate hangers and hang plates on picture nails.

Lighten Up With Wicker

Inexpensive wicker that looks as if it belongs outdoors changes the mood of any room. Put chairs in a sunny corner of their own or mix them with your upholstered pieces.

Make Your Own Art

Even photocopied art looks sophisticated when it floats between two pieces of glass in Umbra's Document Frames. The wall color shows through the glass, creating the illusion of a custom mat.

Be Crafty

A variation on the idea: Make use of mittens missing their mates. Cut felt to fit the backing of the frame and then use craft glue to adhere the felt. Center the mitten on the felt and glue it down; let dry overnight.

Go Natural

Use shells and other beach bounty to warm up a kitchen, an entryway, or a stairwell by creating a rustic, relaxed display.

Think Visually

Add interest to a store-bought lamp shade with the help of ribbon, glue, and an eye chart. (Print one for free online, then have it enlarged at a copy center.

Fake a Headboard

An easy paint project: Create a natural headboard.

Hang a Gallery of Photos

Mine your albums for your best shots (pick a theme: weddings, birthday parties, vacations) and put them in identical frames. Hang in a tight grid or a long line—you can't go wrong if you stick to a geometric arrangement.

Reflect Your Style

Define a space—here, a foyer—with a mirror that adds both drama and light. This one is a hand-me-down dressed up with one coat of spray paint.

Bring in Shades of Colors

Colored lamp shades can make a bold statement. Limit the colors to one per room, and select other lamp shades in neutral tones, such as parchment and white.

Stack Your Books

Piled books draw the eye. If shelves aren't high enough or deep enough to accommodate oversize books, stack them on a flat surface, such as a bench or an end table.

Cluster Candles

Candles look best when massed, particularly on a spacious surface, like a coffee table; the larger the surface, the larger the candles should be. Group four or five pillars of different heights (same color) in glass containers.

Mix Patterns

No matter the season, your bedroom will look springlike year-round with floral sheets or pillowcases paired with crisp white linens. Pick patterns with white backgrounds to keep florals harmonious. Drape bedside tables with vintage floral tablecloths or white matelassé runners.

Bring the Outdoors In

Lend an entryway an earthy vibe with a coatrack made from found materials. Using polyurethane-based glue (such as Gorilla glue), attach a stone to the end of a wooden drawer knob, then screw each knob into a plank of wood.

Repurpose Furniture

Rickety seating can be given a second life as a bedside table. If there's a hole in the caning, place a tray on the chair to hold an alarm clock, a reading lamp, etc.

Showcase a Collection

In the months when your fireplace goes unlit, use it to display a collection of vases or other objects. Gather similar pieces, staying in a simple palette, in a variety of heights and shapes.

Amplify Your Space

Tight spaces expand and rooms seem roomier when you prop up a large mirror (at least three-fourths as tall as the wall). It's a classic interior decorator's trick to create instant―if not real―square footage.
